OutRun sends you toward a distant finish in a red convertible, with traffic and the clock providing the opposition. You choose music before setting off, then steer through scenery that changes as the road forks between stages.

There is no need to win a conventional position battle; reaching checkpoints in time is the immediate concern. The Mega Drive version keeps the split routes and the crucial relationship between speed, gear selection, and controlled corners. A crash interrupts the trip far more seriously than easing off for a difficult bend. Repeated runs become a pleasant process of learning which road feels best tonight.
