The original Star Fox sends Fox McCloud and his wingmates against Andross in a Lylat system built from flat shaded shapes. Choosing one of three routes changes the sequence and challenge of the campaign before the flight begins. The Arwing advances automatically, leaving you to manage position, lasers, limited bombs, and short bursts of acceleration or braking.
Rolling helps against incoming fire, while careless contact can damage the craft beyond simply reducing its shield. Its abstract landscapes ask you to read depth and motion clearly. The spectacle feels distinctly handmade, with enormous structures becoming memorable because the route carries you straight through their geometry.
