Front Mission follows soldiers caught in a conflict on Huffman Island, grounding its walking machines in personal loss and military manipulation. Battles unfold on a grid, with each wanzer assembled from parts that have separate durability and practical roles. Losing an arm can silence its weapon without destroying the machine; damaging the legs restricts mobility.
Between missions, shops and setup screens let you rebuild your squad around different weapons, armor, and weight limits. The tactical decisions begin before deployment, when a poorly balanced machine can undermine an otherwise sound plan. Small portraits and detailed battle animations give the conflict a human scale, even when the immediate question is which damaged part will fail next.
