Sent to the Metroid homeworld, Samus explores SR388 with a clear but grim objective: eliminate the dangerous species. The hunt gives this adventure a different structure from a simple search for a final boss. Defeating Metroids gradually changes access to the underground world, drawing Samus farther from the surface.
Upgrades expand movement and survivability, while the compact screen keeps nearby threats uncomfortably close. The original game offers no convenient full area map, so landmarks and remembered connections matter. Its sparse environments and increasingly strange inhabitants create a feeling of descent that stays effective even within the handheld's modest display.
