Bop-Louie's strange landscape becomes easier to understand as he reunites with friends who initially fail to recognize him. Once recruited, the four characters can be switched to handle different terrain, making another member of the group an answer to an otherwise impassable route.
Swimming, high jumps, and later movement upgrades create reasons to remember the map's unfinished edges. Attacking asks for a deliberate downward stomp rather than treating every accidental contact as safe. Its rounded creatures and wandering music give the expedition an amiable, slightly confused character. Finding the route forward feels less like conquering the place than learning how the whole odd little group belongs within it.
